Eyesore of the Week

I know there's a (sadly) large part of the general populace that consider skinny jeans + converses the best thing in the world since sliced bread, but please to god, I will laugh like there's no tomorrow if I see anyone wearing this:

Contrary to popular belief, washing your eyes with acid isn't that detrimental.

Nicky, how I miss you.

This is old news, but I was watching the Chanel Mademoiselle ads again (the one with Keira Knightley) and was just so crestfallen watching it. It was such a huge disappointment. I tried in vain to console myself, and did successfully by watching the old Baz Lurhmann with the ravishing Nicole Kidman! Don't get me wrong, I think Keira Knightley is pretty too, (i mean if she tried eating at least once a day, she'd be much more pleasing to the eye)

But she does not, in any way, embody the class and elegance of Chanel! Watching the video, I just can't believe it when she's walking down, with her graceful and warm persona. In real life she'd probably be giving the finger and cursing. So I HATE this ad. I don't care if it's Joe Wright. (God he loves her so much). Oh, and thank you Joss Stone for ruining a perfectly good Nat King Cole classic. I can understand what they're trying to do though. The whole young and classic stylish modern woman was the main target audience, but I still don't like it.

The Nicole Kidman one is... heavenly. It's perfect. The music, cinematography, story, god I love it so much. I am very lame and this serves as a pre-empted proclaim about what I am, going to say, but I did cry when I watched it once. Clair de Lune is so pretty! And they're on top of a building in Paree on a Chanel sign. Oh. There goes my heart.

Another one, though short, is the short one with Vanessa Paradis. This is really cool and sexy! I love her, she's such a vixen! This is very le francais and the nod to Gabrielle Bonheur's iconic suits at the end is the finishing touch.

SAG-ing the Red Carpet 2008

So the SAG Awards were last night (this morning) and oh finally a healthy does of dresses on the red carpet. I wasn't particularly floored by any dresses but above were the ones I really liked. Top prize goes to Amanda Bynes who's ditched her skanky minidresses and donned a stunning jewel toned Marchesa dress. Akin to Kate Hudson's gown, I'm not usually one for the Bohemian look, but they look gorgeous.

Grey was a popular choice for the carpet, and Marion Cotillard carries it off best with her dove Nina Ricci. The contrast between the corset and the flowing ethereal chiffon layers of the skirt is breahtaking! Though usually I hate matchy-matchy I don't mind monochrome looks like Michelle Pfeiffer. I don't care if you show me her birth certificate but I cannot believe she is 50! Lastly, albeit a lack of makeup, Marcia Cross does look divine in that colour!

These looks... hmm... so-so. Becki Newton's dress is pretty in it's style. Look at the cutting of the layers and how they drape over each other so softly. But the colour is pretty blah. I'm so undecided for America Ferrera's Marchesa dress. Nice colour, pretty lace. But I can't help but feel that there is TOO much lace and the brooch on her shoulder gives it a gawdy finish. Cate Blanchett, stylish as per usual, but not that wowed.

Olivia Wilde's dress was nice with the pleating, the halter and the toning at the end. For Vanessa, the yellow on red carpet is beginning to pall on me. It was a hit in 07 but... move on, let it go. And Angie... oh no! I've neveeeeer liked Ombre despite the numerous occasions I encountered it on the FW07 Runway (yes I mean you Miuccia!). The draping of the neckline is pretty though.

There are some dresses that are so horrifically mind-boggling but I'll be easy and just show you the nice ones. :)

Who do you think looked best?

mobiles, prams, diapers, babies!

Celebrity babies!
Late Heath Ledger and his 2year old daughter Matilda Rose, its sad how she wont get to know her amazing father. Christian Bale and his also 2 year old daughter Emmaline looking cute in her aviator-style shades. Obviously Sean Preston and Jayden James, sons of Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline. Still being fought over for custody. There's baby Kingston, Gwen Stefani's little son who looks so cute in the picture below next to the picture of Suri Cruise, TomKat's gorgeous nearly two year old girl, both wearing burberry checks. If only we have A-list moms and dads, then we'd be wearing Little Marc, Burberry like these two, Baby Guess etc. How lucky are these little bundles, born into the luxurious life of the stars.

But still in my opinion, the number 1 most fabulous baby is Suri Cruise! She's gorgeous! She has definitely inherited her parents' goodlooking genes. Her hair is cut like her mom's, in the twenties short bob but we still cant really tell if baby Suri looks more like her dad or her mom. Her lovely blue eyes just contrast with her always-soft-looking brown hair. She's always looking very chic and stylish whether she strolls around the streets or wandering around with mom. Or dad.

Ooh and by the way! if you didnt know, Joel Madden and Nicole Richie just had a baby girl called Harlow Winter Kate Madden on the 11th of January 08. Paris Hilton says "I've sent her all these presents. I'm going to spoil her!". Also a few hours later, Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman have a new baby boy on the 12th of January. Azim's birthday! But anyway, he's called Max Liron Bratman. Aww, I cant wait to see their gorgeous to-be outfits their famous parents dress them in!

a series of unfortunate events?

It's really sad and a little strange that quite a few young (not that young) stars are dying of overdoses. Like in the post just now, Heath Ledger. And to add on to that, last week, 25year old Brad Renfro. He was already rising in the big screen, and this happens. He lived with his granmother, so he says he's always been the "man of the house". R.I.P. Brad Renfro.

R.I.P

an enormous loss for hollywood.
Heath Ledger has just passed away yesterday in his NYC apartment at the young age of 28.
The phenomenal actor died of an overdose, leaving his two-year old daughter, Matilda Rose, in this world. whether it's suicide or accidental overdose, we dont know yet. He had recently split up with ex-fiance Michelle Williams in the september of 2007, and was then dating model Gemma Ward.
It's so sad and painful to think that we'll never see Heath Ledger amazingly act in more movies.
Casanova, The Dark Knight (that's finished already), Brokeback Mountain, A Knight's Tale etc.
I'm in slight shock when I read more about his death, especially this article that said "Around 6:30 p.m., city workers rolled Mr. Ledger’s body, in a black body bag on a stretcher, out of the building."

He's really gone..

Top Left: (L-R) Richard Gere, Todd Haynes and Heath Ledger in the premiere of "I'm Not There". Bottom Left & Middle: Heath Ledger in his smooth role in Casanova. Bottom Right is his role in The Dark Knight as the Joker.

R.I.P Heath Ledger. ♥

"Even you Mrs Lovett, even I"

Okay, yay, they did show Sweeney Todd! And thank god! It was simply... amazing!

I love musicals. I love Johnny Depp. I love Tim Burton. And I love this movie! Wait what goes beyond love? Never mind. Of course it's also Stephen Sondheim so one should expect nothing short of brilliant. The casting was perfect, and every single second of the play had me raptly attentive. From the outset I knew the film is gonna be - to borrow a phrase - legendary! Urghhhhhh when will the soundtrack come out on gomusic?

The cinematography was breathtaking, and classic Tim Burton - a perfect blend of a macabre palette and vivid colours redolent of his cartoon-esque pictures
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Big Fish. Well those are the trivial matters in comparison to the plot and writing and music! I'm not so good with reviews so I won't bother. Just get a ticket, sit down, throw away any popcorn or drinks that you have bought, and surrender to the stylized and invigorating masterpiece... that is Sweeney Todd.

Sidenote: if you think Johnny couldn't get any sexier, well he totally raises up the ante. Just think, you can have him sing to you 24/7.

I'm a busy bee.

No I haven't forgotten about this blog! Not that I'd blame you for speculating so after my previous attempts of blogs which I ultimately abandoned. I've been very occupied with trying to avoid studying but I will start blogging soon with something more substantial than this!

Anyway, how unfortunate that the Golden Globes were cancelled this month! Those writers better start working; how am I suppose to survive without my Oscar and Emmy doses of gown dissecting and bitching and ga-gaing?!

http://www.goldenglobes.org/nominations/

Congrats to Atonement and Sweeney Todd for picking up all those little golden people! And of course Johnny who snagged Best Actor for a Musical or Comedy! My heart goes out to James who did not win Best Actor in a Drama, which isn't to say Daniel Day Lewis didn't deserve it!

Wow. I posted without pictures.

fashion police needed.

So Jia min and I went out today, and after a while we started going around into shops trying to find some dresses to play around with and try on. I swear, in all the shops we went to, all the dresses were so disappointing, some were hideous. I thought I'd be positive and think "I'm sure Brunei will have at least one or two decent dresses" but after what I've seen today, I've totally given up on the fashion sense here.

There were complete clashes of colour, tacky sequins sewn onto the wrong places, unnecessary ruffles here and there, extra material hanging here and there that made dresses look even worse, way-too-bright and burst of blinding coloured print, waist bands that ruined dresses that had potential. these just added to the fact that the material for 98% of all the dresses we saw, was atrocious, the material was horrible.

Even the two dresses we tried, we had to force ourselves to pick two otherwise the whole point of playing around and trying on for fun was defeated. we went into "Butik Eileen Chen", and were flipping through the dresses in hope to find ONE decent-looking one, and then we heard a strangely familiar voice right behind us. i hear jia min hissing out my name and i look to my left and her face is half in shock, half in amusement. So I look around to see what she's on about, then i see a familiar head. Black wavy-ish hair, strange accent.. Ms Then was a foot away from us asking the sales assistant.. "I want something plaaaeeennn and simpeel to wear for work" So we burst out laughing and run outside. HAHA. Anyway, saw Mr and Mrs Hollis and they gave us weird looks cause we were meant to be at home studying. heh heh. Rebels.

I would've taken pictures of the 10 worst dresses of 13th January 08 showcased at the mall, but the idea just popped into my head an hour after I left.

okay. no more talking. back into study mode 8-)

big day for a small person. HAHA.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORGEOUS!
you've finally reached the age of 15 like the most of us!
i know you've obviously got some msgs and all that already cause of your (best, nicest, loveliest) friends. so you better eat more chocolate cake, eat some blueberry pie, gain a few pounds (hahahaah), go do some more shopping, travel the world, actually meet your "boyfriend" the gorgeous Gaspard, and then say hi to him for me.

Quando, quando, quando?

I hate those lying bastards at the cineplex!

Months ago (well weeks perhaps) I checked this stupid un-updated false-hope giving website and was ecstatic to see that they were planning on releasing Sweeney Todd by the 3rd of January and other movies that I so badly wanted to see this month!!!

Guess what? It's the third and I see no sign of Sweeney Todd. Instead they're showing Cloverfield next week apparently (though that was not included in that stupid list).

I'm just so disappointed and crestfallen because my whole state of well being revolved around the 24th and 31st when I would be watching Atonement and the Kite Runner (respectively) and maybe covertly sneak in to watch 27 dresses too... (James Marsden is cute ok?)

This month showcases substantially good movies (There Will Be Blood, Gone Baby Gone, American Gangster) but I highly doubt they will show them though. If the story doesn't centre around giant robots saving the world or a foul mouthed idiot trying to bang the girl next door, don't expect on watching it. But if that's the case why do they even bother lying to us?! Eventually you will be exposed as the crappy-movie showing and incompetent cinema that you are. I shouldn't be so naive in the future.

when, when, when?

Hope I don't sound too harsh but I am so crushed cause I've been wanting to watch Kite Runner since like ever! I will retract all the savaging and maligning that I've done to the cinema if they show any of the good movies that I've previously mentioned.

Oh and happy 16th Zim!

What's "horrible and tacky and gross"?

After the latest episode of Project Runway (guilty pleasure okay?!) I'm pretty sure I agree with Christian in saying that it's prom! I think I have been eternally traumatised after seeing the designers collaborate with teenagers to get their dream prom dress, thought its less of a dream and more of a nightmare... (watch out for spoilers!)

Taffeta, sequins and plastic jewelry. What more can a girl ask for?

The GoodActually these ones aren't so bad. The first one is a pretty colour, I like the draping of the 2nd dress though I think if it was more of a forest green it would have more impact (think Keira in Atonement). But the third dress is my favorite. The material doesn't look so cheap, the colour's pretty and the little rhinestones are a nice touch. Far right, this dress could have been nice too. Though it wasn't executed very well. Bit too high at the bust area. The materials horrible too.

The Bad
Well, I don't need to elaborate.
The Ugly
OMG I don't need to for this one either but just cause, I will. You may think I'm lying to you when I say the middle one won the challenge, well i think I'm lying too! Except I'm not! It looks like someone had accidentally spilled their breakfast cereal on her neckline. But the worst is definitely that brown one. It is the god of all atrocious prom dresses. You have the stiff underlining, the eyesore inducing colour (metallic brown bronze?!), the detailing and sequins... and if that wasn't bad enough LEOPARD PRINT SHOES!

I've never been to one so is the term "gorgeous prom dress" and oxymoron? It seems that the occasion calls for such a horrible dress. If you want to feast your eyes on more lovelies:

http://www.mybridaldreams.com/prom.html

Just to placate myself I created a little collection on dresses that could (should) be an alternative to the ones I featured above. I'm still learning how to use adobe btw! I thought that the ballroom near the sea looked really pretty!
Anyways the first dress is Bottega Veneta ss07. For the simple, minimalistic girl.

2nd is Marchesa ss08, an Indian inspired gown for an ethnic feel, but still prom-like and pretty.

The third look is a bit risky for prom, but for a boost of colour, this Lanvin ss08 is stunning!

From Ralph Lauren's ss08 collection, this shorter dress is fun with polka dots but still classy with a vintage My Fair Lady feel.

Lastly is Carolina Herrera and staying true to prom traditions there is the poufy skirt (but not TOO huge) and lace and just to add pink, there is the bow.

Or perhaps I shall just pop in that prom episode of the OC with Mischa in a Chanel gown and Greco-Roman flats.

This made my day.

(Ensuing the last hatred laden HSM cast post...)
In an interview with Elle magazine, Jessica Alba who graces the cover of the February issue, tells the mag about her encounter with the boy in the pic (saying his names gives me the creeps!);
"He looks like a child with a lot of makeup."
"I was like, My God, you're just a little kid."
It's just funny cause I've always though the same thing. I understand in this day and age and especially the entertainment industry men are expected to wear makeup too. But really, no one should cake it on like he does. Tsk. In other magazine news, my Johnny is on the cover of Rolling Stones again! Thankfully, sans Keith Richard and Pirates getup (and buttons... )

At left is his first Rolling Stones cover, 1991! Oh my that's seventeen years ago! Note that both covers are January! Aren't we so meant to be... sigh. Nevertheless he's still lookin good.

Oh and I don't know whether Wikipedia needs to be rectified or what I heard wasn't true; but someone told me Giuliani is no longer running after the New Hampshire primary but on wiki it still says he is! If anyone knows please! I really hope wiki is right.

a bit behind, but still big.

High School Musical

you either love it, or hate it.
I, myself, am not fond of it at all but i think it's good for kids. kids like these kind of things. leave them dreaming that there's always a happy ending no matter what. that latterns and fireworks are gonna magically fly or shoot up into the sky when you kiss someone. there's so many tiny mistakes that you can point out, i guess its just to add to the whole happily ever after thing they want to show kids. BUT some of these mistakes should never be there in the first place. there's even a group about all the mistakes HSM made! I mean, i dont even like the actors. Zac Efron was really good in Hairspray though, but being a big hotshot that hollywood says he is? No way. I mean, I've heard so many people say his nose was weird when HSM1 came out.

I just hate it how the media is so obsessed about HSM. I know its a huge hit with the kids especially when Disney made such a big deal about it in the first place with the countdowns, the sing-a-long's, dance-a-long's and everything, but why does the Media have to be so obsessed with something that a HUGE number of people find so extremely, terribly annoying. I think Disney plays the songs and videos over and over. Dont you just get sick of it after hearing it 50 times in a week? I reckon when the media found out that main actors Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were a couple, it was probably their #1 story. I find it so sad. And when Ashley Tisdale recently got her little nose job, E (the channel) went straight on the story and announced that all her fans hated her now. I mean, if she was so insecure about her nose until she had to turn to rhinoplasty, then let her be!

why is the media so obsessed about this movie/s when its meant for the kids. do you see something like the Even Stevens Cast all over the tabloids? I mean, they're probably more entertaining.
Shea Leboeuf! They had a movie AND a tv show. OOH and HSM even has their own BOOKS. They are all over bookstores, probably in every single one. Oh my god. And I cant wait to see HSM3 when it comes out in cinemas. *rolls eyes* HAHA omg thats so bitchy. Might be a laugh to go along see how cramped the cinemas are gonna be. IF it comes out in Brunei. It probably will, definitely a huge money maker.

okay. if you like HSM, I'm sorry. :)

Runway to Reality

Tis the season for celebrities to start dressing off the SS08 runway!

Elettra Rosselini Wedemann in Chloe

Katie Holmes in Lanvin

Marion Cotillard in Chanel

I really wish celebrities take the effort to dress up in their designer duds. Unlike the runways where combinations are arresting, these outfits are so devoid of flair and creativity! Oh well, not everyone has panache.

Doesn't Katie Holmes look stunning though? She's come a long way from her Dawson's Creek days.

i guess the good evens out the bad.

the people here; some are really friendly and have manners, some just don't and aren't.
i was driving home from training or something and I saw this car stopped on this narrow road on the way home, and it belonged to an old man. I guess his car broke down or he had a flat tire. But there was this police (i don't know how he got there cause i doubt policemen would drive along somewhere quite deep inside the road.) that actually cared and stopped to help this old man. I mean, how nice is that. You could've just driven off and minded your own business and think "oh yeah sure, someone will stop and help him. It wont really matter, he'll be okay" but the policeman didn't. I just thought, we should have more of these kinda people.

BUT.
last monday, new year's eve, i had a dentist appointment for my braces at JMPC. so when I got back, there was a car that COMPLETELY blocked my car from leaving that particular parking space. all the other cars behind were too close up and there was absolutely no way to get out. So my mom started hitting on the horn, first once, then a few more times. This
kept up for another 15 minutes and we just sat there. we were actually running late for some errands but i guess those errands weren't all that important. From the building right next to us, this man just casually walked out and took his time fumbling in his pocket for his car keys. Then he walked in front of our car to get to the driver's seat GLARED at us and just got into his car and SLAMMED the door, without even apologizing for blocking our car. (we knew cause our windows were slightly open to let the hot air out) that just pissed me off. hasn't anyone taught him any basic manners? my god.

Ooh btw, have any of you watched the Concert for Diana? As in Princess Diana. Oh my god, it was really touching, really sad. so many of the performances were amazing. Rod Stewart, James Morrison, Elton John, Joss Stone, Natasha Bedingfield, Kanye West, P Diddy. they even showed videos of the wonderful things that Princess Diana had done, like visiting the blind people. that one was soooooo beautiful, that moment on the video. oh my god. it was all really sad.

all wrapped into one with a ribbon on it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMO!
HAHAHA this is how much uglier you look with the wig. :D you know i love you, you fat loser :)

Oh my god. Amirah has disappeared.
Anyway, first day of mocks! not cool, so annoying with all that waiting for the time to come.
English was okay, wasnt that hard but at the same time, it wasnt easy.
I did the argumentative like I was meant to but I wasn't completely sure on how to blend the topic into the introduction I did. I guess the main body of it was decent. It was just a bad statement, so strange.

"To hate people is always wrong"

Doesnt that just sound like something your mom or a teacher would tell you?
"okay kids, now its not good to hate each other. you must all learn to be friends!"
pfft. so i thought that question was dodgy. But I haad to choose it.
I thought the first question was not too bad. I missed out the part where it said "develop points if you need".
something like that. Ooh i guess it shouldn't matter that much. I argued my points.

So we all got really bored after the exam. I think 10 of us all marched off to the shop to get some grub.
It was boiling today, so cold in the exam room but sooooooooooo friggin' hot outside.
I find it so amusing when security guards ask for your exam pass,
then you just take it out and shove it in their faces. Authority!
I GOT THE POWER! ♪

after a while, we started jumping around.
jon (lee) was jumping over sheng, arthur and kee khoon in the basketball court.
actually, it was quite scary to watch. :| cause arthur and sheng aren't what you'd call "short".

so overall school was okay. when I got home, I just felt really BLAH. tonight is most definitely not my night. Jon, I'm really sorryy. I know i suck.
off to revise now. boringgg.
